2023 Legislative FOCUS

Join us for our semi-annual membership meeting!

LEGISLATIVE FOCUS AGENDA

Our purpose at the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce is to make the state a leader in industry, innovation, economic competitiveness and overall quality of life. We FOCUS on advocating for effective public policy initiatives on key issues facing New Mexico – issues like education, water policy and economic development.

This is your best chance to hear from the chamber team and industry experts about the initiatives we are working on to make New Mexico a better place to do business and live. In addition, our government affairs team will present the draft policy positions and priorities proposed by NMCC's member-driven policy committees for final approval. The policy agenda adopted by the membership at this event is what will carry us through the 30-day session.

REGISTRATION CLOSES FRIDAY 12/8/23 @ 4PM

CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Engage in a policy discussion on unlocking New Mexico’s workforce by addressing workforce training funding gaps for in-demand careers. Participants will also have the opportunity to tour the new, Be Pro Be Proud mobile workshop, a cutting-edge workforce development public-private initiative to engage students across the state in high-demand career pathways. After touring the BPBP mobile workshop, you will be entered into our first-ever raffle with a chance to win exclusive NMCC merch and a surprise prize!

WATER

Water, water everywhere…, building a resilient water future for New Mexico and the Southwest.

New Mexico Environment Department Secretary James Kenney will join us to speak about the newly announced strategic water supply investment for the first time publicly. The investment will increase drought resilience through the treatment and storage of brackish water in the state. This initiative is the first of its kind in the southwest and will help ensure water security and bring a $500 million investment to New Mexico's economy through advanced market commitments. This announcement directly ties into our water panel, which will discuss advanced market commitments, best practices surrounding brackish water, and how the private sector contractors play a role in the future of the state's water security.

Water Panelists

Representative Meredith Dixon, NM House of Representatives
Stacy Timmons, Associate Director, Hydrogeology Programs New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources
Matthias Sayer, SVP, Legal - Environment, Health, Safety & Regulatory Affairs, NGL Energy Partners
